Boxee losing hulu... where does that leave us?
I'm sure many of you might have already heard that Boxee was forced to remove hulu as one of the content providers on their platform.  I do not and have never had access to the Boxee beta so I am not sure how it worked but I would imagine that they were directly linking into the video stream or some how making the stream play as a standard video and bypassing the hulu website all together.

All along I have insisted that I wanted to LINK to hulu's content... not provide their content in a totally different format.  If you think about what we are doing here we are really just consuming the the RSS feeds (that hulu openly provides) and linking to the episode pages on hulu's website... basically a big link engine... so hopefully that will differentiate us enough from Boxee and be the one thing that keeps our project going in the long run...

The very fact that we are linking to the hulu pages is what makes it difficult for us to put the content in full screen mode and automaticlly set the video to the 480 versions... I am working more on that system (the resolution independent idea just isn't going to work)... hopefully my next build will finally address full screen issues for EVERYONE.

Also... just to be prepaired for the worst I am going to start getting content from more sources... I will likly be going directly to the networks site where I can and also look at some other places as well... I will keep everyone posted...

I couldn't agree more. You are simply (although I know it is anything BUT simple to do) linking to the content and not removing any commercials or anything. Basically using MC as a web browser. Isn't using a web browser exactly how Hulu wants their site viewed??? THEY HAVE NO CASE HERE. Your implimentation is great.

An idea would be to open source this, so that way if your asked to stop, work could still continue...

The only problem I could see with Hulu would be that they may be missing revenue possibilities from reduced traffic at their portal. Maybe even a reduction in "good will" from reduced portal traffic. Silly as hell, but American corporations have proven their capacity for silliness (and rampant greed) abundantly over the last year or so. Looking better all the time. I can't wait to see this thing in final form.

I also would like to see you pull content directly from the networks site as they routinely seem to offer higher quality then Hulu. Great plugin btw...
